Dates for your diary in 2018
Saturday 17th February 12:30pm to 4:00pm – Founder’s Day
In the early 1970s Raymond Gordon, the founder of The Horse Rangers Association, wished his Horse Rangers to have a London Church in which all members, including outlying troops could assemble. He approached Canon David Edwards, who at the time was Rector of St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey. Canon Edwards was delighted to agree, and to mark this special association, he received the Horse Rangers’ Colours in St Margaret’s following the visit of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother to their Headquarters in June 1973. The Colours are installed over the font at the rear of the church, and the founder’s ashes are inurned in the wall, where they are marked by a stone plaque. In 2002 the association re-formed as The Horse Rangers Association (Hampton Court) Limited. Since 2010 the annual service to mark the Founder’s Birthday has been held at the Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace.
Friday 22nd June All Day – RDA Open Day
RDA Open Day takes place in June and this is a wonderful opportunity for our RDA riders and volunteers to celebrate everything that has been achieved during the year. Riders compete against each other in fun and exciting races, all winning lovely rosettes for their efforts. We also present awards including two volunteer awards to acknowledge long service and endeavour and for our riders, Most Improved Senior Rider and Most Improved Junior Rider.
Sunday 24th June 1:00pm to 4:00pm – Awards Day
As you are probably aware, during the year our Rangers are marked on a regular basis on their attendance, uniform inspection and riding; these marks are then calculated in time for our annual Awards Day. The winners are unaware until their name is announced so it is a surprise for one and all. Family and friends are invited to come along and watch the Awards ceremony, from 1pm onwards. It is the perfect afternoon for a picnic as there is an area to spread a rug or chairs and have your lunch while you watch the Musical Ride – and then the Rangers form up for the Awards Ceremony – at 2.00pm. The venue is at The Stockyard, Bushy Park, Hampton Court Road, Hampton, TW12 2EJ. This is also where the Gymkhana takes place every year.
Saturday & Sunday 1st and 2nd September – Gymkhana
Our annual Gymkhana is the highlight of the year. Rangers compete in a variety of games and races on horseback. There are turnout classes where rangers can show off their skills and presenting a horse, and dressage classes where rangers can show off their skills. It is a fabulous weekend where children make wonderful memories.
Saturday 25th November – Christmas Fayre
The start of the festive season, a fabulous chance to come and support Rangers and have an enjoyable evening drinking hot chocolate and eating hot dogs.
Sunday 9th December 6:00pm to 8:00pm – Carol Service
Our annual Carol Service is held in the Chapel Royal at Hampton Court Palace. It is a very magical service, and a lovely way to celebrate Christmas. We all gather at the Mews after the service for a glass of wine and a mince pie.
